DBN Gogo: Unreal Experimentation

DBN Gogo is no stranger to iQHAWE Magazine—her previous feature for Kwa Gogo in the Summer Gig Guide 2024 solidified her place as a cultural trailblazer. Mandisa Radebe isn’t just a DJ; she’s a movement—an unstoppable force redefining the global dance scene. As a cultural innovator, she embodies the spirit of Unreal Movement, where sound, identity, and creativity collide to shape new realities. Her journey is a testament to fearless experimentation, an unyielding commitment to the culture, and a dedication to uplifting the next generation of artists.

How is your personal narrative weaved into the Dn8?

I seamlessly weave my personal style and unique narrative into every aspect of my creative expression. For me, fashion is more than just clothing—it’s a powerful extension of my identity, a visual representation of my personality, experiences, and artistic sensibilities. The way I choose to dress is an intentional reflection of who I am, making self-expression through style feel natural and instinctive. Because of this, adapting to this campaign felt effortless, as it aligned with my existing approach to fashion and personal storytelling. It was an opportunity to further explore and showcase my aesthetic in a way that felt both authentic and deeply connected to my creative vision.

We heard you collaborated with some artists to produce a track for Dn8. As a music producer who values collaboration at the core of your work, how was that experience?

The entire experience was truly incredible. Even after all these years of working on collaborations, I still find myself feeling that same initial rush of excitement—it never gets old. There’s something so special about seeing a project come to life, from ideation to execution, and knowing that it resonates deeply. It still feels surreal, and I’m so grateful for every opportunity to create and connect in this way. I can’t wait to finally share it with everyone and see how it’s received!

How does your artistic expression capture the idea of movement—whether physical, cultural, or emotional?

I try not to confine it solely to my personal artistic expression but instead strive to create something that reflects the broader culture I engage with. For me, it’s about fostering a sense of inclusivity—ensuring that the work speaks to a collective experience rather than just my own perspective. I want it to be a space where everyone feels inspired to interpret and share their own idea of movement, making it a conversation rather than just a statement.

How do you see the infinite experimentation between fashion and music evolving in the future?

It can only get better from here. Finding your style is much like finding the perfect beat—it’s an experience that pushes you to challenge yourself. Fashion and music will always be my favourite married couple.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind in music and culture?

It is an inseparable part of who I am—I am truly nothing without it. Every step of my journey has been shaped by the experiences, lessons, and people who have walked alongside me, and I never take that for granted. I always remind myself to honor how far I have come, to acknowledge the struggles and triumphs that have defined my path, and to remain grateful for the support that has carried me forward. The road is never easy, but through it all, my goal has always been to give my best, to create with intention, and to uplift those around me. More than anything, I hope that when people look back, they see that I poured everything into what I did—and that I made sure no one was left behind!
