Fear of being seen failing is something a lot of people struggle with in your years of being a professional athlete. Has there ever been a moment where you felt afraid to fail? And what’s your relationship with the concept?

I have never feared failure because, to me, it has never been a setback—only a lesson. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn and improve. In sports, there is no true failure—only growth. Each time you show up, you refine your skills, strengthen your mindset, and become better than you were before.

To follow up that question, what has been the most bold and divisive way of not playing it safe?

I had to develop my own master plan and become unpredictable. As an 800m runner, this meant mastering all race tactics so I could adapt to any competition.

Rhythm and focus is important for you as an athlete , what role does music play in your training and downtown?

Music has the power to both calm and energize me. It sets the tone for my mindset, helping me find the right balance between focus and intensity. Whether I need to stay grounded or get fired up, music plays a key role in shaping my energy for every race or workout.

How does your expression capture the idea of movement—whether physical, cultural, or emotional?

I think, more than anything, the beat plays a huge role in how I write. Most of the time, the beat actually guides my style of writing. I’m usually very chilled, but I try to switch up the melody so that it doesn’t sound repetitive. It might feel similar, but never the same. If you listen to most of my music, it’s pretty laid-back, yet it still feels fresh and different. I like to think that with each song, you might feel like you’re listening to a different artist, because the melody changes, even though the beat might be similar. I believe that’s what connects people to my music — it’s the variety, the storytelling, and the way each track offers something unique.

Do you consider yourself creative?

Yes, I consider myself creative. If you look at the way I celebrate my victories, I do it in my own way and style, that’s my trademark, my brand, and my identity. When you see it, you know exactly who it is.

There’s something in the Air with you and music — What can you tell us about your collaboration with DBN Gogo to celebrate the Dn8 Air Max?

Haha with music I think is two individuals that are inspired by each other’s Art work, and the concept came along during our trip to the Olympics and with the time we spend together I think that idea come there and with her as creative in the music industry saw something great and beautiful , it was peached and as two parties we loved and thought let’s give South Africa that TKZ Bennie feeling back through Amapiano.

What legacy do you hope your contribution at the present time leaves behind?

For me personally what I want to leave behind my name and my work is very simple: create a platform for youth to be able to access sports and education without traveling far but just where they are, changing their lives it’s what I want.
