Gibela is about cultural consciousness to allow safe space for the existence of diverse cultural perspectives.
The programme was made up of layers of experiences integrating the expertise and creativity of our collaborators, resulting in offerings that transcend the typical limitations of our respective disciplines.
As FEDE’s first offering in Johannesburg, this homecoming manifests through a dynamic, communal space of engagement through cultural production, at Braamfontein’s much-loved MAMAKASHAKA & Friends.
Featuring Umcimbi as a prelude to the exhibition, a panel discussion featuring Moiplone Tlale, Nandi Dlepu, Nkhensani Mkhari facilitated by Lebo Kekana (Director of Fede Arthouse) designed to foster critical discourse.
Our contribution to the Gibela programme unfolded in three key parts:
- Media Partnership, we contextualized the programme through an editorial spread, highlighting the artists featured in the exhibition.
- Skills Sharing & Knowledge Exchange, our Editor-in-Chief, Renaé Mangena, alongside Namhla Thiwani, founder of Makhundai, led an insightful styling workshop.
- Amplifying the Sonic Experience, we elevated the atmosphere with a curated lineup of vibe dealers, including Boemo Diale, Circles & Squares, Franadilla, Xzavier Zulu, and LeloWhatsGood.
Through these elements, As iQHAWE we helped shape a multidimensional experience that blended art, conversation, and sound for the Johannesburg edition of the programme.
