The Africa Haus Women’s Retreat Reminding Us That When Women Gather, The World Starts Healing

There is something powerful about a room filled with women who are given permission to simply pause. Not to perform, produce or lead, but to breathe, reconnect and be present with themselves and one another. This Women’s Month, Africa Haus created exactly that kind of space with its inaugural Women’s Retreat at The Well in Johannesburg. Bringing together a carefully curated community of 30 women from across Africa’s creative, business and cultural landscape, the retreat offered an intentional day of restoration, conversation and connection.

Rather than another networking event, the experience centred wellbeing as a foundation for meaningful community. The morning unfolded through yoga, breathwork and mindful movement, alongside access to The Well’s sauna, ice baths and recovery spaces. These moments of stillness and restoration created room for women to step away from the demands of everyday life and return to themselves.

At the heart of the day was Women in Bloom, an intimate fireside conversation hosted by Nandi Dlepu. From conversations over lunch to portraits, laughter and moments of connection, the retreat demonstrated that community does not always have to be built through grand gestures. Sometimes, it begins with simply being in the room together.

The retreat also highlighted the importance of creating intentional spaces for African women, spaces where wellness, creativity, entrepreneurship and culture can exist together. By bringing together founders, artists, executives, creatives, media personalities and cultural leaders, Africa Haus created an environment where different industries and perspectives could meet, overlap and inspire one another. Because when women gather, stories are exchanged, relationships deepen, ideas begin to grow and women are reminded that they do not have to carry everything alone.

What was even more beautiful to see women shaping culture, businesses and creative industries across the continent also deserve spaces that nourish them. Because when women gather with intention, something shifts. Stories are exchanged, relationships deepen, ideas begin to grow and, perhaps most importantly, women are reminded that they do not have to carry everything alone.
