So, last eve, we undertook a modest little affair, and to declare it a matter of considerable consequence unto us would, indeed, be the gravest of understatements. Opening our ASICS x iQHAWE magazine digital covers reveal event recap in such a manner, feels fitting for our Renaissance-inspired theme, and perhaps proof that we really do need to bring back Victorian English, lol.
But jokes aside, last week we gathered creatives, image-makers, and cultural contributors at Mamakashaka & Friends in Braamfontein for an evening that honoured the power of perspective through photography and visual storytelling.
Rooted in the belief that movement is not only physical, but also a shift in the way we see, the launch turned its lens inward, celebrating six photographers whose work has shaped memory, culture, and contemporary visual language. Often positioned behind the camera, these image-makers stepped into the frame as subjects, authors, and living archives.
Set against a backdrop where Renaissance-inspired stillness met contemporary installation, the space transformed into something both sacred and cinematic. More than a launch or exhibition, the evening became an embodiment of the gaze that continues to shape culture and storytelling today.
Here is an archive of this moment in an attempt to let it linger a little longer.
Till we meet again.
